1-8             1s+5s dance a figure of 8 on own sides. (1s in & down, 5s out & up).

9-16           2s+4s dance a figure of 8 on own sides. (2s in & up, 4s down & out).

17-24        3s dance a figure of 8 on opposite sides round the 3rd & 4th couples.

                   (Pass partner by right shoulder, dance right shoulder round 1st corner, then dance left shoulder round 2nd corner,

                    pass partner by left shoulder back to 3rd place.)

                    At the end of bar 24, 1s face down, 2s, 3s, 4s & 5s face up, all joining nearer hands with partner.

25-26        1s dance down, 2s dance up changing places. (1s dance under arch made by 2s).

27-28        1s dance down, 3s dance up changing places. (1s make an arch, 3s dance under).

29-30        1s dance down, 4s dance up changing places. (1s dance under arch made by 4s).

31-32        1s dance down, 5s dance up changing places. (1s make an arch, 5s dance under. 1s finish facing out in 5th place).

Repeat.

 

The Artful Dodgers was written in 2002 and as of 2014, I haven't seen Bundy dance it correctly! Someone always seems to go the wrong way. The title was given to the dance as the dancers weave around each other, carefully dancing in a particular direction, if they make a mistake they run into each other. Only if the dance is correctly danced are the dancers truly Artful Dodgers!
